Short Description:
Blackouts, Congestions, Rumors, Diseases —— these different failures can be understood by one theoretical framework developed based on complex network theory. To mitigate these network failures, we need to understand mechanism behind the positive yet harmful feedback of failure propagation. Research of network reliability and resilience is aiming at exploring the cascading failure processes of different complex systems, evaluating the potential risks, predicting the possible scenarios, controlling the failure propagation, and finally building a 'smart' system.

Professor in Beihang University. He received his Ph.D degree of statistical physics in Bar Ilan University (Israel), with highest distinction. Focusing on the management complexity of complex systems, he has made novel contributions in the failure behavior of complex flow networks, based on the combined methods from network analysis, big data and reliability. He has published results on PNAS、Nature Physics、Nature Communications、Phys. Rev. Lett. as first or corresponding author.
Jun Wu (National University of Defense Technology)
Dr. Jun Wu received his B.S. degree in management science from Sichuan University, China, in 2002 and PhD degree in management science from National University of Defense Technology, China, in 2008. From 2007 to 2008, he was a visiting PhD student at the Institute for Mathematical Sciences, Imperial College London, UK. From 2016 to 2017, he was an academic visitor at the Department of Computer Science, University of California, Davis. He joined National University of Defense Technology in 2008 and currently is a professor. His research interests are in the areas of complex networks, especially the structural robustness of complex networks.

Petter Holme(Tokyo Institute of Technology)
Petter Holme is a specially appointed professor at Institute of Innovative Research, Tokyo Institute of Technology, Japan. His research is both data driven and theoretical and covers many aspects of large-scale structures of natural and social systems. To do this, he mostly uses network-based frameworks. Lately he has been interested in how to integrate information about time with network methods. Holme has a PhD in theoretical physics from Umeå University, Sweden. After postdocs at the Department of Physics, University of Michigan, and Department of Computer Science, University of New Mexico, he was assistant professor at the School for Computer Science and Communication, Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden and Department of Physics, Umeå University, Sweden and Sungkyunkwan University, Korea before joining Tokyo Institute of Technology.
Cheng Zhu(National University of Defense Technology)
Dr. Zhu received his PhD degree in management science from National University of Defense Technology, China, in 2004. From 2012 to 2013, he was a visiting scholar at the Department of Systems and Information Enginerring, University of Virginia. He joined National University of Defense Technology in 2005 and currently is a professor and Assistant Director of Science and Technology on Information Systems Engineering Laboratory. His research interests are in the areas of multilayer networks, especially the network interdiction and the security games on multilayer networks.
Yongxiang Xia (Zhejiang University)
Yongxiang Xia received his B.Eng. and Ph.D. degrees in Electronic Engineering from Tsinghua University, China. From 2004 to 2006 he was a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. After that, he worked in the Australian National University as a Research Fellow. He joined Zhejiang University in 2010 and currently is an Associate Professor. Dr. Xia’s current research is in the area of network science and its application, where he has published more than 40 papers. He is an Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems-II: Express Briefs, and an Editorial Board member of Scientific Reports and Plos One.
Jichang Zhao (Beihang University)
Jichang Zhao received his B.E. and Ph.D. degrees from Beihang University in 2008 and 2014 under supervision of Prof. Ke Xu. From 2012 to 2013, he visited the department of Physics, Bar-Ilan University, Israel as a joint Ph.D student supervised by Prof. Shlomo Havlin. He is currently an associate professor at the School of Economics and Management, Beihang University. His research interests include online social media, complex networks and business intelligence.
Chi Zhang (Tsinghua University)
Dr. Chi Zhang is currently an assistant professor in the Department of Industrial Engineering, Tsinghua University. He received his Ph.D. degree in Systems Engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology in May, 2012, B.S. degree in Industrial Engineering and M.S. degree in Management Science & Engineering, in respectively 2004 and 2007, both from Xi'an Jiaotong University. His research achievement has been published in peer reviewed journals such as IIE Transactions, European Journal of Operational Research, IEEE Transactions on Power Systems, among others. His current research is focused on reliability analysis and optimization of complex networked systems, maintenance optimization, warranty policy and critical infrastructure protection.
Min Ouyang (Huazhong University of Science and Technology)
Dr. Min Ouyang received his Ph.D. degree in Systems Engineering from the Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan, China, in 2009, followed by postdoctoral research in Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Rice University, Texas, USA from 2009 to 2012. He is currently an associate professor in department of systems science and engineering, Huazhong University of Science and Technology. His research interests include simulation and modeling of infrastructure interdependencies, critical infrastructure resilience and city resilience. Dr. Ouyang was elected as “ChuTian Scholar” in Hubei Province in 2012, and was among the “Most Cited Chinese Researchers” (Safety, Risk, Reliability and Quality) in 2014-2016.
Zhong-Yuan Jiang(Xidian University)
Zhong-Yuan Jiang received both B.S. and Ph.D. degrees from Beijing Jiaotong University in 2009 and 2013 respectively. He is currently on the faculty board Xidian University. Now he is an associate professor in the School of Cyber Engineering, research interests including traffic congestion in complex networks and urban computing, reliability of complex systems, etc.
